What many people don't know is this musical was a Broadway play before its' Blockbuster smash-hit 1978 movie. In 1972, Broadway opened its doors to the high school musical originally produced by Maxine Fox and Ken Waissman. Tom Moore directed the New York theater debut of the musical. After a nearly 3,500 show run, the show ended just several years after it began. While its legacy continued in other parts of the world like London, there was a longing for it's revival in New York City. The musical's second US-run came in 1994 for 1500 performances. As of recent years, Grease has been revived a third time with it's Broadway-return in 2007.
