Active since 1981, the alt-rock band continues to enjoy fame and success to this very day. For the most part, the original members have remained in-tact and continue to release new records and nationally tour with the group. Sonic Youth has been signed with over a half-dozen different record labels (more than the majority of other active artists) and have had appearances / camios on shows like 'The Simpsons'. One noteworthy thing the band does is alternative tunings for their guitars. While seen by several bands of blues and jazz genres, this is one of the first major pop rock groups to use such obscure and intriguing tuning methods.
